United Lens Company is committed to growth while continuously improving on the environmental footprint we leave behind. As a company that has been in business for over a century, there have been a lot of changes and upgrades along the way. In recent years, we have made great strides to turn ourselves in the direction of a green path—and we’re not done yet. What we’ve achieved today will never be better than what we will achieve tomorrow.
The changes we have made and are continuing to improve on work towards better conservation of water, energy and waste to protect our local ecosystem, and improving our company environment and employee well-being.
Initiatives
Read about some of the specific initiatives we have already implemented.
Our new utility building was designed with conservation in mind. Centralizing much of our company’s critical supporting infrastructure and making vast enhancements to our HVAC, compressed air and deionized water systems, along with our entire electrical infrastructure, will reduce the pressure our facility puts on our planet’s natural resources.

Due to our ongoing work related to security and compliance, ULC has implemented a new system for the disposal of controlled and non-controlled paper. At the same time, we have been working to better understand all of the waste streams that we generate here at the company.
ULC has now launched a program for single-stream recycling in the company! All non-shredded paper, bottles, cans and recyclable plastics will be sent to a recycling facility rather than to the landfill. Our garnet powder is being recycled into concrete, and our shredded paper will be made into pulp for recycled paper. We are even able to recycle electronics to ensure that as many of their components as possible will be reused, and that the remainder will not pollute our lands and waterways.
ClearRiver recycling bins have been implemented throughout the facility, and in a smaller effort to reduce plastic waste, all employees have been given a ULC glass water bottle to use at any of our commonly placed clean water filtration systems.
The company owns many acres of beautiful forest and wetland habitat. As part of our work on sustainability and conservation, we have been assessing our lands through the use of trail cameras, acoustic detectors and more to observe our land and learn how we can better preserve and protect it.
Some of our land is also now being utilized for a solar farm with photovoltaic solar panels used to collect concentrated energy from the sun to power the surrounding areas.
This is all just the beginning as we continue to find more useful and environmental-friendly ways to control all aspects of our facility’s footprint and improve on our everyday actions in order to help better conserve our planet.
